Three things about a jump rope handle change how the rope feels: length, weight and grip. Length sets how far your hands sit from the pivot, weight decides whether your wrists or your forearms do the work, and grip decides whether you can still hold on at minute eight. What is inside the handle matters less than any of them.

Length: 13cm or 20cm
Most jump rope handles sit around 13cm. That is the length that keeps your hands close to your body, which is where you want them for singles, doubles and general training. Short handles keep the rope tight to your hip line and give you a direct feel for where the cable is.
Our Elevation MAX Long Handle runs 20cm instead. That extra length exists for one job: reach. In a cross or a side swing, the handle itself opens the rope wider, so your arms do less. It is a real advantage for trick work and a real disadvantage everywhere else, because you feel less of the cable.
Simple rule. If you are learning to skip, short. If you are learning to cross, long is worth trying. More on that in what jump ropes professional freestylers use.
Weight: light handles, heavy cable, or the other way around
Weight can live in the handle or in the cable, and the two feel nothing alike.
Weight in the cable slows the arc and loads your shoulders through the whole rotation. That is what our Gravity Heavy Rope does with its 10mm PVC, and it is why that rope is built for strength sets rather than speed.
Weight in the handle does something else. It shifts the work from your wrists to your forearms, and it makes fast rotation harder rather than easier. We keep our speed and freestyle handles light for that reason. A light handle lets the wrist turn the rope, which is where the speed comes from.
The heavy rope is the exception in our range, and it gets a different handle shape on purpose. Longer strength sessions put pressure through the wrist, so those handles are shaped to spread the load rather than concentrate it in one spot.
Grip is the part nobody thinks about until it fails
Grip is what decides whether the rope is still under control when your hands are wet. It is also the least glamorous thing to design and the fastest way to ruin a session. A handle that turns in your palm changes the rope's timing without you noticing, and then you are troubleshooting the wrong thing.
If your hands are slipping, dry them, and check that you are not squeezing. A death grip is a common cause of sore forearms, and it usually comes from a rope that is the wrong length, not from the handle.
What is inside the handle
This is where most rope marketing lives, and it deserves less attention than it gets. A bearing lets the cable spin faster than your hands are moving. We leave bearings out because that gap between hand speed and cable speed is what breaks people's rhythm. The full reasoning is in bearing vs bearing-free jump ropes.
What is inside our handles instead is a snaplock. It holds the cable, and it lets you cut the rope to your own length with household scissors and lock it again in seconds. No crimping tool, no spare parts, no video needed. The beaded ropes use a washer system for the same job.

Handles take a beating, so ours are warrantied for life
Freestyle work involves hitting the ground with the handles. Group sessions involve dropping ropes on concrete. Our handles are built light for balance and tough enough to survive that, and they carry a lifetime warranty. Cables are consumables, handles should not be.

Common questions
Are heavier handles better for building strength?
Not really. Weight in the cable loads you through the whole rotation, which is what a heavy rope is for. Weight in the handle mostly makes fast rotation harder.
Why do my forearms burn after five minutes?
Usually grip tension, and grip tension usually comes from a rope that is too long or arms held too far out. Fix the length first, using the sizing guide, then see if it persists.
Can I swap handles between ropes?
Within the speed and heavy ranges the snaplock system means cables are interchangeable if the diameter matches. Beaded ropes use a different system and are not interchangeable with them.
Do longer handles make the rope faster?
They make the arc wider, not the rope faster. Speed comes from cable diameter, cable length and your wrists.
